For the past few years I have dedicated much of my time doing animal rescue work in Los Angeles with our stray and feral cat population. I have fostered and adopted out hundreds of homeless cats and kittens living on the streets and it has been very rewarding work.
As 2008 came to a close, I felt that my life was taking a different turn and my rescue work was expanding.
The call of the wild echoed in my ears.
The Destination was Africa.
I have recently returned from volunteering in a 2 month program working with Animal Conservation and Rehabilitation Reserves in South Africa and Namibia! This opportunity allowed me to do what I have always dreamed of doing… helping the endangered animals of Africa.
I was invited to participate in 3 different locations with Enkosini Eco Experience. Below is the contact information and listing of the programs I worked on if you wish to find out more and go yourself!

It was a magical time and it made me realize just how precious our animals are. There is very little "free" land left in Africa. What you see now are miles and miles of electric fences bordering the game reserves to keep the wild animals in and around the cattle ranches to keep them all out. If they do find their fate to pass through these barriers, animals such as the cheetah, buffalo, elephant will be electrocuted, stoned, snared, poisoned and shot to death. The are considered "pests" to those that live there.
While poaching is still a huge problem in Africa, more animals such as elephants are killed or "culled" on purpose because there is just no where for them to go. The land is gone and the water is dried up or being used by farmers.
I had the opportunity to work with baby animals such as lions, rhinos, cheetahs, monkeys, meerkats, giraffes, zebras, various birds and so much more.
I sat among a pack of elephants with a research team for hours each day as we marveled at their beauty and majestic presence. I slept out with baby baboons and my favorite cheetah in the world - "Goeters" - at Harnas and found out later he was the adopted kitty of "Angelina Jolie" after she shot a movie with him.
Sadly, Goeters passed way July 2011 at 24 years old. He is missed by the entire world.
All I can say is this... PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THE WILD ANIMALS IN THIS WORLD!
You will not know how much you will miss them until after they are all gone. Extinction is a word of finality. It means the death of every member of a species! What will the world be like with out our polar bears, our lions or the tigers. Please do what you can to help end their suffering.
Love & Peace,
